In all of Jesus’ seven letters to the churches in the book of Revelation, we are told: “Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” The elect of God will hear His voice and follow Him. Jesus said “Whoever belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.” (John 8:47 NIV)  Jesus was clearly saying that if you think you are a Christian but are not hearing God’s voice in prayer, you are not walking with the Lord. It is impossible to obey God without hearing His voice for direction. Without hearing Him, we can only guess at what His specific will is for us.
