Recently I was watching a spiritual warfare series that was describing the importance of knowing who you are. Which I strongly agree with.

We need to know our position in Christ, foremost. In fact, it is one of the reasons that God has very sternly told me that I must be bolder in stating that I’m His prophet. He doesn’t want me to be ashamed for bringing a word from Him. He reminds me always to give the hearer the same test … and that is to ask God yourself!

I don’t want you to believe me. I want you to go tattle tale right to the Father. It is my heart’s desire that you would ask God for yourself! Always! That’s why I teach people how to hear God’s voice in prayer. I do it for free. I do it at my own sacrifice. I do it in obedience to God. It aches my heart to see so many so-called Christians that DO NOT HEAR GOD! It breaks my heart! And it breaks God’s heart too. But don’t believe me. Ask God yourself.

In the spiritual warfare video, a man who had received many trophies along the way talked about how he was troubled that the trophies were an idol that took away his freedom. So, he threw them all away. When I heard this, I did what I always do, I stopped right there and asked God silently “Did you want him to throw away his trophies?”. God answered, “No, they weren’t idols, they were memorial stones.” Those trophies were a reminder of all the great things that God had done through that person. The devil wanted him to throw them away to prove an allegiance that God didn’t question. But the devil prompted him to throw away exactly what God wanted him to keep. (Again, don’t believe me. Ask God yourself!)

God instituted a remembrance through the Communion symbols. Those memorial objects (wine and bread) help us to focus our hearts and minds on the things that God has done to reach out to us through the cross.

Israel was commanded to set up 12 memorial stones as a reminder to the nation that God had made a way for them. Those stones were like trophies to represent that God had chosen them.

In conclusion, you know if your trophies are an idol. If you bow down to a success rather than to God, they’re probably an idol. But surely, you could take the time to have the conversation with God in prayer and ask Him questions until you absolutely know with Holy Spirit conviction if they belong in the garbage can or as memorial stones for the successes reached with God’s hand of provision. Don’t be too quick to let the devil fool you. God does want you to remember His provision.

While there are no earthly trophies assigned to prophets, there is nothing more victorious than hearing God, who spoke the world into being, say “Well done, good and faithful servant!”.
